I recently included one of my favorite
poems, "The Road Not Taken", in a post as it fit so well with what I
was thinking and feeling that day. And then along comes, Kid President,
and he has his own amazing interpretation of that poem: “Two roads diverged in
the woods; and I took the one less traveled….And it HURT, man…(really bad)!!
… NOT COOL, Robert Frost!” But he then says, “but what if there
really were two paths?? … I want to be on the one that leads to awesome!”
If you're on Facebook, I'm sure you've seen the video pop up in your News Feed. And, if you're like me, maybe it took you a few days to take a look...or, perhaps you haven't seen it yet at all. But I urge you to take a few short minutes to listen to what Kid President has to say. There are just too many beautiful words and
thoughts that this little boy so genuinely delivers to us, so I’m including the
YouTube link here as this is something I think everyone should see at least
once. I agree with Kid President, “I think we all need a pep talk…”

As Kid President so matter-of-factly
explains, “This is life people. You got air comin’ through your
nose. You got a heartbeat. That means it’s time to do
somethin’!” Now if that isn’t a slice of encouragement, perhaps this says
it better: “What will be your Space Jam? What will you create that will make
the world awesome?”
At nine years old, Robby Novak manages to
give us all what is most likely the greatest (or one of the greatest!) pep
talks of our lives in just three and a half minutes of encouraging
monologue. As the self-appointed voice of a generation, he is an amazing
speaker; so emotive in his delivery that he just shines through the screen into
our homes (or wherever we may be) and makes our hearts smile with hope.
He reminds us of things we should think about more often (specifically being
awesome and giving people a reason to dance) and he challenges us to simply be
better. With more than 8 million views on his video, this lil man has
spread his thoughtfulness far and wide and something tells me this isn’t the
last we’ll see of him.
So let’s all get out there and make a
difference. Let’s try to be more awesome. I don’t know what that
will mean for each of you; but I'm going to take it one day at a time.
I'm going to keep writing and keep working on my photography.
I'm going to keep smiling and dreaming and loving...I'm going to keep
floating. But if I’m having an off day, I’m going to think of Kid
President and remember to “get a dream and keep going. Keep going and keep
going…we got work to do. We can cry about it or we can dance about
it. We were made to be awesome…”
